Risk Management
Stop Loss
Definition
A stop loss is a predefined order that automatically closes a position when the price moves against the trader by a specified amount. It is the most fundamental risk management tool in futures trading, limiting the maximum loss on any single trade. Stop losses can be set at a fixed dollar amount, a number of ticks, or based on technical levels such as ATR multiples or support/resistance zones.
