Maintenance Margin
Definition
Maintenance margin is the minimum account balance a trader must maintain to keep a futures position open. If the account equity drops below this level due to adverse price movement, the broker issues a margin call requiring the trader to deposit additional funds or close positions. Maintenance margin is typically set at 70-80% of the initial margin requirement.
