Clearinghouse
Definition
A clearinghouse is a financial institution that acts as an intermediary between buyers and sellers in the futures market, guaranteeing the performance of every trade. When a futures trade is executed, the clearinghouse becomes the counterparty to both sides, eliminating default risk. It manages margin requirements, daily settlement, and delivery processes. CME Clearing is the clearinghouse for CME Group products.
