Market Structure
Bear Market
Definition
A bear market is a prolonged period of declining prices, generally defined as a drop of 20% or more from a recent high. Bear markets are driven by pessimism, weakening economic indicators, and selling pressure. One advantage of futures trading is the ability to profit in bear markets by going short, selling contracts at higher prices and buying them back lower as the market declines.
